Clifford Scott Holmes

April 20, 1936 -- February 03, 2026
Clifford "Scott" Holmes: Born April 20, 1936 in Muskegon, Michigan. Passed away at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, NM on February 3, 2026, a couple months shy of his 90th birthday.

He served in the US Air Force from 1954-1958 and in the US Air Force Reserves until 1962. He served as Security Police while in the Air Force.  He worked various cement construction jobs, to include working at Sandia Labs and KAFB in New Mexico.

He was a very avid reader, enjoying westerns most. And watching his favorite western movies. During basketball season, you could find him at the stadium watching the Lady Lobos basketball team. And for football season he watched his favorite teams, either Detroit Lions, or alternate team Denver Broncos. Scott was a Detroit Lions fan before it was cool.

Scott loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping at any time of the year. Often taking Debra and Michael camping and snowshoeing in the winter in Michigan. During the summer, Scott loved camping at Mount Taylor, with his Albuquerque family. Also attending various athletic and school events, family gatherings for holidays and birthdays.  One of his greatest joys was babysitting and watching the younger ones grow up, taking them to school and fun places, entertaining them, teaching them and telling jokes.

Scott is survived by his children, Debra Marquis of Kansas City, Missouri and Michael Holmes of Grand Rapids, Michigan. His granddaughters Loralei Marquis and Clara Beth Holmes. His sisters, Mary Lou Seymour of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Judy Somers of Fremont, Michigan. His adopted family in Albuquerque: Stella Ortiz, Monica Huff, Michael Tafoya, Anthony Huff and Khataire Huff, along with the rest of the Ortiz, Tafoya and Huff families, who affectionately called him "Grandpa Scott".

Anybody who knew him, knew he could always be counted on. He was the best brother, dad, grandpa and friend anyone could ask for.
We love you and miss you greatly.

A celebration of life will be held in July. Family is asking that instead of flowers that a donation be made "In Memoriam of Scott Holmes" to the VA Hospital of Albuquerque 4th Floor Community Garden.
