Michael Steven Karpin
Born in the Bronx, New York, to Julius Steven and Florence Karpin, Michael proudly served in the United States Navy from February 1974 to February 1978 during the Vietnam War era. After his military service, he continued caring for those who had served by building a career with the Department of Veterans Affairs while also earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from San Diego State University. He worked for many years as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant in Redding, California, before transferring to the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked in the MRI Department until his retirement.
Michael had an easy smile and an agreeable nature, and he always enjoyed talking to people. He had a special interest in history and could often be found watching the History Channel, reading the newspaper, following current events, or cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed board games, spending time outdoors, and the simple pleasures of everyday life.
Those who knew Michael will remember him as a gentle, dependable man who dedicated much of his life to serving the Veteran community, first through his military service and later through his work at the VA. He made a difference in the lives of countless Veterans with his compassion and willingness to help.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon. He is survived by his cousin, Dr. Jennifer Krasnoff, and her husband, Eitan Homa, of California, as well as his extended family of cousins, his friends and community at Brookdale, and his special friends, Archie Stanish and Renai Gallagher.
He will be remembered with affection and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Michael will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Michael was very friendly, always had a big bright smile. He will be missed by all his Friends here at Brookdale, I am his caregiver and I miss him already very sweet man he enjoyed playing bingo, but most of all, he liked when I would take them for a walk around the building a couple of times and we'd sit in the front and rest for a little while. And then we go again. The second time I always had a smile always would point i became his friend pretty much.Because I was with him five days a week.He depended on me a lot.. He liked when I had lunch or dinner with him. He would always say, aren't you going to order. Very caring. RIP MICHAEL🙏🙏🌺🌼🌺🌼
