Mike was my closet friend from about 1959 through high school (1967). We lived 2 blocks apart in Port Huron, MI. We shared a deep love of music and attended many classical, rock and jazz concerts together. Mike was probably the most inquisitive person I've met. I fondly remember the many evenings we would sit at his kitchen table In PH with his dad and discuss all manner of lofty topics. Our friendship continued in college, especially when he moved to Ypsilanti to go to Eastern Michigan, right down the road from Ann Arbor, where I was. I was there when he met and married his wife Jodi. I lost touch with him (and many others) when I moved to CA for graduate school. We connected again about 15-20 years ago and I was happy to see that he had the same energy and thirst for life as I remembered. You are sorely missed Jbird!

I was Mike’s friend when we were in elementary and middle school at Woodrow Wilson and Washington schools in Port Huron. Mike was funny, intelligent, and an extremely talented musician (piano) and composer. If you knew Mike at all well, you have heard “Macaroni,” his whimsical composition playable as only he could by more or less dislocating that amazing set of thumbs he possessed to achieve the span necessary to play some of the Rachmaninov-like chords it included. We stayed loosely in touch on Facebook, but I regret not following through on the reunion that he and Mike Cartier and I talked about. I can hear his laugh and shall aiways remember him fondly. My condolences to his friends and family. Fred Baker
